Case Studies
Client:
S.L.A.T.E. August 2010
Objectives:
For the fifth straight season since its launch of S.L.A.T.E. at MAGIC, IHC planned, orchestrated and executed the show at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. In addition to our standard graphic design show promotion, exhibitor partnership management, onsite asset creation, event staging, offsite venue partnership, and social media management services, this season IHC worked to provide the best show features and new enhancements yet.
Strategy:
For August 2010, IHC provided creative/branding consulting, designed and coordinated exclusive brand collaborations, brought in musical and visual artists, managed media partnerships, oversaw show floor day-to-day, coordinated the official opening event, and managed all S.L.A.T.E. social networks. Highlights included more interactive collaborations than ever before; IHC created a blogger lounge and invited partner Complex Magazine to bring in bloggers from its media network to cover the show, brought in event photographer Rony Alwin for a digital onsite photobooth hosted by partner Antenna Magazine, worked with the 7th Letter Crew to bring in live artists Retna, Norm and Ewok, and brought fun to the show floor in the form of a cobranded XLARGE air hockey table. IHC teed up hot DJs and gorgeous venue Vanity for the opening night event, as well as managing the 3-day onsite DJ booth with curators Stussy, Stones Throw and Delicious Vinyl.
Result:
As was repeated many times by visitors, exhibitors, and the client, August 2010’s S.L.A.T.E. achieved its goal of improving on past seasons’ successes and of being an even more interactive, enjoyable and beneficial show for all involved. Bloggers from blogs like Hypebeast, Karmaloop, Freshness Mag, SlamXhype, NiceKicks, Sneaker News, Complex and Antenna blogged live from the show floor, and brands reported a far higher media presence than they’d ever experienced. Brands were able to showcase their latest product at the bloggers’ lounge, and the custom videos that the AMP film crew filmed, edited and distributed onsite on USB drives went up right away on brand websites as well as giving brands great exposure as part of the AMP Style series. Also popular reposts were the custom-branded photos from the Antenna photobooth manned by official show photographer Rony Alwin and posted on www.ronysphotobooth.com. The 3-day DJ booth saw great sets from Jamie Strong of Stones Throw, Aaron Lacrate, and the infamous Arabian Prince, among many others – and walking the aisles were scores of streetwear and music notables, including Flavor Flav and skater Stevie Williams.
The official opening party at Vanity at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino was a hit, with event sponsors Antenna Magazine and AMP Energy helping host a VIP open bar, and DJs Skeet Skeet, Jus Ske and Ikon on the turntables all night. Along with those main features, IHC coordinated all event elements from logo branding and beverage sponsorships (AMP and Belvedere) to creating a custom S.L.A.T.E. Day 1 video reel that partygoers enjoyed in the lounges.
Press hits for S.L.A.T.E. 2010 reached record highs thanks to the amplified media presence IHC orchestrated and the independent blog posts and press from happy showgoers!
