Just heard about Project White T-Shirt recently after its launch here at Welcome Hunters in L.A. and it's a pretty cool concept. In a nutshell, "31 designers from 13 countries transform and redefine the white T-shirt." Catch it at 415 Gin Ling way until February when it moves to Space15Twenty.

"Fashion is an evolution: from animal skin to artificial cotton to synthetic fiber, from a necessity to an elitist symbol, to a way of self-expression. For decades, a T-shirt has been a functional article that covers the torso. But how will it evolve? What will the process of evolution create? Project White T-Shirt challenges dominant notions of fashion and draws the connection between different forms of art. Its goal is to expand possibilities and creativity through the most basic article of clothing: the white T-shirt.

This is not a T-shirt design contest. Rather, Project White T-Shirt aims to transform a plain white T-shirt into something more. The designer can turn the shirt into furniture, equipment, electronics, a bicycle—-anything they want, however they want. They will transform and redefine the definition of the T-shirt as we’ve understood it for so many decades."

"Beginning with the opening of the first exhibition at Welcome Hunters on December 19th, 2009 and through the end of the exhibition tour, we will be auctioning off the pieces online. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to Designers Against AIDS."
